Bruce Pardo did not want to accept that his marriage was over, and he especially did not want to accept that it was due to his own actions. As a way of revenge on his ex wife, Bruce does the unthinkable and spends 6 months plotting the murder of his ex wife and her entire family to take place on Christmas Eve.
